Storage Redundancy Overhead
Redundant storage protects data by duplicating files, but it consumes extra capacity. This calculator compares redundant data to original data to show what percentage of your total storage is overhead.
Educational purposes only. Not professional advice.
Examples
- 10 TB data with 5 TB redundancy ⇒ 50% overhead
- 100 TB data with 20 TB redundancy ⇒ 20% overhead
FAQ
What is redundancy overhead?
The extra storage required for redundancy expressed as a percentage of the original data.
Can I use GB instead of TB?
Yes. Any consistent units work; the percentage remains the same.
What if redundant data is zero?
The overhead is 0% when no redundancy is stored.
Why can't data be 0?
The calculation divides by the data size, so overhead is undefined if data is 0.
