Garage Epoxy Coverage Calculator
Plan your garage floor project with confidence. Enter the total floor area and the manufacturer's stated coverage per gallon to estimate how many gallons of epoxy you should have on hand for a single coat.
Examples
- 420 sq ft at 250 sq ft/gal ⇒ 1.68 gallons
- 550 sq ft at 200 sq ft/gal ⇒ 2.75 gallons
- 720 sq ft (two-car garage) at 175 sq ft/gal ⇒ 4.11 gallons
FAQ
Does coverage include a second coat?
No. Perform a separate calculation for each coat and sum the totals to order enough material.
Can I use metric measurements?
Yes. Convert square meters to square feet by multiplying by 10.764, and liters to gallons by dividing by 3.785.
Does surface texture affect coverage?
Absolutely—rough or unsealed surfaces absorb more epoxy, reducing the stated coverage per gallon.
Should I buy extra epoxy?
Keep at least 10% extra to account for roller saturation, touch-ups, and waste during mixing.
What if my coverage number is zero?
Coverage must be greater than zero to produce a valid result. Check the product label for the correct value before calculating.
Additional Information
- Always round up to the next whole kit; epoxy is sold in pre-measured batches that must be mixed completely.
- Coverage can drop by 10–20% on porous or unground concrete, so consider adding a contingency gallon.
- If you plan a primer and top coat, run the calculation for each layer using the appropriate coverage rate.
- One gallon equals approximately 3.785 liters for metric planning purposes.
